American mathematician, educator and author William L. Schaaf was born in Manhattan in 1898. He graduated from Columbia College and earned a doctorate at Teachers College. He had a distinguished teaching career which included 31 years at Brooklyn College and 2 years at Florida Atlantic University. He wrote more than 20 books about math instruction from elementary to college level as well as a Bibliography of recreational mathematics and a biography of Karl Friederich Gauss. He died in Delray Beach Florida on December 9, 1992.

File consists of clippings from various newspapers and journals, offprints and reprints of scholarly papers, brochures, newsletters, holograph notes and photographs collected in three scrapbooks.
